Behind the Story

Have you ever watched a show or listened to a podcast, and wanted to learn a little bit more about the story behind the story? Here are a few of those for you:

• Gastropod. Gastropod is one of my favorite podcasts, exploring the connection between science and food. Here’s an interesting story about the two women who, alone, produce the podcast, and how they have turned it into a steady income. Gastropod began as an ambitious passion project in 2014, and after more than three years and 72 episodes, the duo has amassed an audience of 100,000 downloads per installment, a growing roster of advertisers and more than 580 five-star reviews on Apple Podcasts.
• Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me. Another favorite podcast is NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me”. Here is the story behind the quiz show.  The show is a bona fide hit. According to NPR’s audience insights and research team, more than 4 million people listen to Wait Wait each week on the radio. Plus, according to analysis by Podtrac, the podcast of the show was the 10th-most-downloaded of 2017.
• Animaniacs. The good news is that Animaniacs is coming back as a series; the bad news is it on a streaming platform, Hulu. In conjunction with that, however, Mental Floss reposted their summary of everything you wanted to know about the Animaniacs.
• Quantum Leap. Here’s an interactive map of everywhere that Sam jumped.
