Here are some reports of upcoming musicals of interest, or in some cases, just stunned astonishment at the audacity:
- Psych the Musical. The upcoming musical episode of the TV series is December 15. Anthony Rapp is involved.
- Hee-Haw The Musical. No, I’m not joking. It’s got a 2-week Equity staged reading. I’ve also heard rumors of a Beverly Hillbillies musical. Betcha this makes the 1980s British musical invasion look good.
- The Gospel According to Britney. Another head-shaker of a reading. SPEARS: The Gospel According to Britney is the story of Jesus Christ told through the music of pop icon Britney Spears. SPEARS includes the singer’s hit songs, including “Stronger,” “One More Time” and “Crazy,” to describe the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to press notes, “Not one word is spoken, and not one lyric is changed, technically making the musical an opera.”
