Let’s Fly, Let’s Fly Away

This is a busy busy time, and the chum is accumulating. To whittle it down a little, here are some articles related to things that fly:

• The First 727 and It’s Last Flight. Here’s a real interesting article about the first Boeing 727, and how it is being restored and getting ready to make its last flight. The problem is finding parts and making it airworthy. Not many 727’s left.
• TWA Pride. Another article from the same source, this time about the TWA Wings of Pride, a plane that was almost forgotten and has been lovingly restored. There’s an interesting mention of a TWA Museum in Kansas City.
• Temporarily Zepplin-less. After 13 years, the Los Angeles Goodyear Blimp (or is that Goodrich) has taken its last flight and is being deflated. In a few years, it will be replaced with a new blimp.
• Abandoned Airports. I always remember one USAir trip through either PHL or PIT, and seeing an abandoned air terminal off in the corner. Abandoned air terminals are fascinating, from those that go from very busy service to nothing (who remembers DEN – Stapleton International), to others that remain forever. Here’s an article on some abandoned terminals and airfields.
