Furlough News Chum Stew

It’s Saturday. Furlough or not, that means it’s time to clear out the accumulated links (while I listen to some new music… 32767 songs, here I come)…

• Furlough News. Here are 25 Front Pages that show how real people are hurting from the furlough. Want something closer to home? Next week is California Rideshare Week. I know our van will be down from 6 to 2, and a number of vans won’t be running at all. This will skew the numbers, and may imperil vanpool registration in the Metro program.
• Don’t Jump. Here an article on the suicide magnet that is the Golden Gate Bridge. Want a different perspective on suicide. Here’s one that only an economist can give.
• Broken Instruments. Boy, this seems to be downer post. First we have the furlough, then suicides, and now… here’s an article on the whole warehouse of broken instruments at LAUSD. There’s no money to repair them, so they backlog grows and grows.
• Where Do The Elephants Go? Here’s one answer: Look on page 12 of the December 1927 CHPW. So, somewhere near Orick near US 101 is the buried carcass of an elephant.
