Vaguely Theatre Related Things
Jan. 17th, 2013 06:29 pmHere are a few vaguely theatre related things that have been accumulating:
- Big Daddy For The Win. A few weeks ago, I did a kickstarter to help Big Daddy fund an album of stage and screen music. They just sent an update on the project, and “oh, wow!”. Remember, Big Daddy is a group that does songs frozen in a late 1950s style. Here’s what they wrote: «Three songs that we’ve decided will absolutely, positively, undoubtedly, most likely appear on our new album are… “Music Of The Night” from Phantom Of The Opera, “Over The Rainbow” from The Wizard Of Oz, and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins.». Now, just imagine those three songs in a 1959 style.
- If an English Dapper Dan Can, If an Irish Calahan Can…. Back in 2007, we saw an excellent revival of Cole Porter’s Can-Can at the Pasadena Playhouse. Well guess what… I learned today that it may be moving to Broadway. Now if only they could get the original cast, for Michele Duffy and Kevin Earley were great in it!
- Dining Along the Way. Whenever we have theatre in Hollywood, one of our favorite restaurants is Natalie Peruvian. Well they just got a great writeup.
- A Bookstore Goes Away. It’s across the street from a theatre… that should count! A real neat Mexican bookstore we saw in Palm Springs is (alas) closing. What did it in? The death of a mall.
P.S.: I mentioned Kickstarter in the beginning, let me close with a current kickstarter: The folks behind Nottingham Festival, a new RenFaire that is starting in Simi Valley, are doing a kickstarter for the permitting process. They hope to hold the first faire in August.
