Friday News Chum (On Monday): Teller Speaks, Shari Lewis, Board Games, Circuit City, and Ikea Doubli
Friday I was sick, and thus unable to get out my normal end of week news chum that I couldn’t otherwise fit in a theme. So here it is, belatedly, on Monday…
- Manipulating Minds. An interesting article where Teller (of Penn and Teller) speaks, discussing how a magician manipulates the human mind.
- Shaping Minds through Role Models. Another article on a person — this time, a surprising person who served as a role model: Shari Lewis, the children’s host, educator, and puppetress.
- A Different Type of Roll Model. The LA Times has a nice article on the return in popularity of Board Games. Ticket to Ride, in particular, is mentioned. Anyone up for a Diplomacy game?
- I Thought It Was Already Gone. TigerDirect has announced that CircuitCity’s website, CircuitCity.Com, is finally going away. About damn time.
- Growth in Burbank. Ikea is planning to almost double the size of their Burbank store. They plan to replace their current 242,000 sq ft store near the Media Center Mall with at 470,000 behemoth about a mile to the S near San Fernando and Providencia. This will make it the largest Ikea in the US. After it opens in 2016, Ikea will close the current store, and pass the land (for which they have been paying no rent) on to the landowners of the mall.
