📰 Beauty is in the eye of the News Chum

Another area in which I collect news chum is titled “Size and Beauty”. Articles in this area explore body image, and society’s acceptance (or non acceptance) thereof. It also explore how we treat people based on their appearance. As I clear out the news chum, let’s see what’s in this area:

• My high school abolished its sexist dress code. Things got better. An interesting exploration of what happens when a school stops trying to enforce particular categories on the sexes must dress.
• Woman Opens Up About The Pain Of Skin Removal Surgery After Losing 350 lbs. We hear a lot about people having gastric bypass operations, and in some ways, the bypass is the easy and least painful part. Skin doesn’t shrink back, and often requires removal as well. And that can cause significant pain. What is the price of beauty?
• Women’s Razor Ads Weirdly Never Show Body Hair — Until Now. Here is something you’ve probably never noticed: Advertisements for men’s razors show hairy men taking off the hair, with a smooth face afterwards. But for women? You never see the hair they are shaving off.
• This Pool Float Is Designed Specifically For Busty Women. Society has loads of implicit biases. The shampoos you get in hotels are designed for Caucasian hair. Facial recognition is designed for white faces. Airline seats are designed for narrow butts. And pool floats are designed for people with no chests.
